Unveiling an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found numerous interesting creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a character that is actually a turd striving to make its way to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, battle mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy outfits for your dung hero.
Plan your jumps carefully, as a mistake forces starting over. Jump using floating orbs to launch yourself to new heights, traverse crumbling surfaces, and interact with triggers to reveal secret routes. Earn coins and use them on tougher game content as things gets crazy.
Graphically, the game features neon level designs and a killer soundtrack. Its minimalist art with shifting geometric shapes could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to name similar titles where you are a dung character, interactive entertainment often included toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme shows up extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already received significant recognition, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on Steam this November.
